How To Be A Good Drilling Partner

Drilling partners are some of the most valuable kind of training partners, and are instrumental to developing and pushing your jiu jitsu game to the next level. One of the main keys to being a good training partner is being fluid, if you are jerking and partially resisting the whole time then surely you will not be sought after to drill with. But on the other hand there are people that enjoy or prefer drilling with that intensity so you have to take it upon yourself to read the pace and intensity in which your drilling partner is practicing. Another key to being a good drilling partner is making sure you are providing the correct reactions (given that your partner is drilling a sequence) and try to do so in a timely matter so that your partner also increases the effectiveness of his or her timing.

Now in the case of speed drilling, speed drilling can be one of the most gruelling forms of drilling. Be sure to encourage your partner by saying phrases like “push the pace” or “you got this”. Small phrases like these can be extremely motivational to your partner and can encourage them to push faster and harder than they thought they could. Following these steps will surely make you a sought after drilling partner.
